Inspired by Sir Lenny Henry’s mother’s journey to Britain in the late 1950s, Three Little Birds is a life affirming drama series exploring untold stories of love, sisterhood, parenting and friendship, and the joys, laughter and struggles of making a new life in the so-called Mother Country.
It follows three young Jamaican women who travel to Britain to start anew in the Midlands; spirited sisters Leah (Rochelle Neil – The Nevers) and Chantrelle (Saffron Coomber – Eastenders) and their pious friend Hosanna (Yazmin Belo – What Just Happened), who are lured to Britain in search of new beginnings by their older brother Aston (Javone Prince – Dodger, PhoneShop). It charts the successes and challenges they face, and the tensions and burden of what they’ve left behind. It is a moving, funny, heartfelt and ultimately triumphant celebration of immigration, community and the strength of Black womanhood.
Three Little Birds is created and written by Sir Lenny Henry, and developed in consultation with Russell T Davies who serves as Executive Producer alongside Sir Lenny, Angela Ferreira from Douglas Road Productions, Lucy Bedford and Kate Crowe from Tiger Aspect Productions, and lead director Charles McDougall (Julia, The Good Wife).
